The 2018 champions will be crowned at the home of European cliff diving
There's no better place for the 'grande finale' in this anniversary season than Polignano a Mare. Hosted in the south of Italy for the sixth time in ten years, the sport's European home provides the most unusual take-off point: Through a private living room the male and female athletes enter the platforms mounted on a roof top terrace 27m and 21m above the Adriatic Sea.
Until Alessandro De Rose's maiden wildcard win in 2017, victory was reserved for the champions only in this typical southern Italian town. Duque, Silchenko, and Hunt were the Italian's predecessors on top of the podium.
Thousands and thousands of spectators won't miss the action, as this place not only means mozzarella, delicious raw fish and ice cream, but people of all ages fascinated by jumping into the water as cliffs are the foundation of everyday life, with the town itself perched on the precipice.
The birthplace of Domenico Modugno, writer and interpreter of the world famous song "Volare" (flying), is part of the province of Bari, Puglia, and inhabits just a little more than 16,000. Puglia's scenic coastline stretches over 750 kilometers; its biggest city is Bari, hallmarked by the Swabian castle, museums, several churches and monuments, and modern facilities such as an international airport, a tourist and industrial port, and fast railway connections.
An extremely pleasant climate makes this region the ideal setting for sports & nature activities all year round: trekking trails, cycling routes, horse riding, golf greens, diving centers, beaches equipped for windsurfing, sailing and kite surfing are Puglia's sports tourism highlights.
