Despite the cancellation of Saturday's World Series stop, the athletes were still able to perform a mass dive in Brazil.
Unforeseen circumstances surrounding the platform meant that the penultimate stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2013 in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, could not take place as planned.
Instead 12 of the World Series athletes dove from a crane from a height of approximately 20 metres - seven metres short of the standard height for competition. The sizeable crowd who gathered on Icaraí Beach enjoyed the exhibition and for the divers it was a form of consolation following the frustration of the cancellation.
"I feel bad for the divers and for the whole team who worked for so long and unfortunately we don't have an event at the end," said 10-time world champion Orlando Duque.
For Russian Artem Silchenko it has raised the stakes going into the final: "We did a show for the Brazilian people and now we will look forward to the final in Thailand."
Thailand's Krabi Province hosts the 2013 World Series final on Saturday, October 26.
