Auckland, New Zealand

Iris Schmidbauer was the surprise wildcard from Lebanon, where she impressed with the execution of one of the world's hardest dives in the women's – a back 3 somersaults with 2 twists tuck and a Degree of Difficulty of 4.3. In the end it was the tiny margin of 0.10 points that decided against her first ever World Series podium.

"Of course, it's sad that I just missed the podium. The trophies look so nice but maybe next time," the 1995-born said in a first statement back then.

The upgrade to permanent status – making her the 2nd German woman in seven years of the World Series – not only gives her a chance to collect eight trophies in 2020, but also proves the student's huge talent. She did not learn the sport of diving from an early age on, but only started in her late teenager years.
