David Colturi dives in Polignano a Mare
Date: 23/04/2016

He's the former US national 10m champion, the World Series' sunny boy, and - having finished 5th overall for the last four seasons - the embodiment of consistency. Ahead of the fast-approaching 2016 season kick-off in June, David Colturi has kindly taken some time out to answer a few questions and give us an insight into his passions, pleasures and goals.

What is your favourite dive?
Reverse double with four twists

What is your favourite cliff diving spot?
Krabi (Thailand)

What is your goal for the 2016 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series season?
I'll be taking this season one dive at a time, being the best athlete I can be at every moment, and enjoying every step along the way. Success can be a fleeting moment, but the journey to get there should be an unforgettable experience.

Will you show any new dives? If so, which one(s)?
Reverse double with 5 twists.

Who'll be your main competitor in 2016? Why do you think so?
Gary Hunt. Someone has to take down the champ!

Why is this going to be YOUR season? What's your 'magic' key to success?
I wish there was a 'magic' key to success! The reality is it takes hard work, dedication, and resilience to succeed in this sport. Throughout the off-season I've had three words as my mantra: healthy, strong, and prepared. I'll be keeping these with me, mentally and physically, and that's why this is MY year!

What do you expect from the new event format (required, intermediate, optional)?
Switching one of the required dives to an intermediate dive will definitely spice things up this year. Each of us will have to be more versatile, and better prepared than ever before. That said, with the best cliff divers in the world you know we'll be ready, and with more DD you can definitely expect higher scores!

All stops of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will be live on Red Bull TV - what do you expect from that?
I think it's awesome we're going live on Red Bull TV this year. We're nearing our goal of bringing cliff diving to everyone, better educating our fans, and inspiring all to get outside, have fun, and conquer their own cliff!

What's your personal goal for this year?
My personal goal for this year is to interact with more fans and future divers on the freestyle and fun side of cliff diving. I love seeing cliff diving adventures from around the globe, keep exploring people!

Do you have any secret passions?
Learning new languages and instruments

What's the craziest thing you've ever done in your life?
This is a tough call between a sketchy 17m rope swing in Indonesia, and allowing Kyle Mitrione to lift me above his head and throw me like a javelin 22m above the water every work day for two summers.
