A First Course of Cliff Diving at Pier 7

It was a historic night for the sport of cliff diving: the first ever night competition and Brit, Owen Weymouth, became the youngest competitor in the World Series history at 17-years-old.

#

Kyle Mitrione takes flight from the men's 27m platform above Dubai Marina.

#

Wildcard Jaki Valente departs the women's 20.5 platform.

#

Jonathan Paredes and Orlando Duque patiently await the elevator to take them up to the platform, attached to the side of a restaurant on Pier 7.

#

Dinner for two? Just a first course of delicious diving will do as the men tackled the first two rounds on Thursday night.

#

Diners look on as the legend Duque treats them to some first class diving.

#

Blake Aldridge suffered a nasty landing during his warm up session and will now not compete.

#

Steven LoBue twists away from the platform...

#

And the American pumps his fist after a great first round dive.

#

Pier 7 is lit up beautifully as Ginger Huber leaps into the night sky.

#

Artem Silchenko looks relaxed and he delivered on his brave promise of a blind entry in the dark.

#

Rachelle Simpson gets a good look at the water on her way down to the marina.

#

Lysanne Richard stands in the spotlight after an amazing season which saw her battle all the way for the title.

#

But the night belonged to wildcard Rhiannan Iffland, who wrapped up a brilliant World Series win with her first dive in Dubai.

#

The Australian celebrates down on the dock as the enormity of her victory begins to sink in.
